RICHARD FORD HISTORY

You'll have to buy The Autobiography (!) to get the full story, but I can give a brief resume here and on the GALLERY page.

Posh Beard 1

From early days at The Whispering Wheels of Wolverhampton, to Torquay's famous Imperial Hotel, and from The Officers' Mess at RAF St. Mawgan to The Land of the Midnight Sun in Northern Norway, I've been spinning the discs and pushing the buttons since the seventies.

Making a positive decision to continue with the superior and real quality of vinyl records has resulted in over five decades of original Golden Oldies.

These are the Revived 45s that everyone loves to remember. and which will make your function be regarded as one of the very best.

Renowned for character chat, there'll be no pre-records, or indeterminate mixing, and being proud to have presided at hundreds of evening (and daytime) events, we really can provide an unparallelled service at competitive cost throughout the South of England, and further afield.

Youth With Perm MotownThrough the Keyhole

ABOVE: ALWAYS A JOY TO BE DESCRIBED AS A 'DISCJOKEY'! THIS NEWSPAPER CLIPPING COMES FROM THE LOCAL JOURNAL IN KRISTIANSAND. IT WAS OBLIGATORY TO PLAY PETULA CLARK'S 'DOWNTOWN' AS THE FINAL RECORD!

ABOVE THAT (to the right): A GOOD EXAMPLE OF A TRULY FANTASTIC PIECE OF RICHARD FORD MEMORABILIA! SUCH A SHAME THAT YOU COULDN'T GET AWAY WITH IT THESE DAYS...

Singing

"I'M COMING HOME, I'VE DONE MY TIME, AND I'VE GOT TO KNOW WHAT IS AND ISN'T MINE..."  MY TONY ORLANDO/DAWN IMPRESSION FROM THE EARLY SEVENTIES.

Casa Marina School Days

AH! THE CASA MARINA CLUB. (Hands up if you remember this place as being just the BEST club for miles around!) THEY HAD AN OLD MORRIS 1000 BY THE ENTRANCE PAINTED UP TO RESEMBLE A POLICE PANDA CAR, IN ORDER TO SUGGEST TO CUSTOMERS THAT THEY MIGHT LIKE TO BE GOOD BOYS AND GIRLS ON THE WAY HOME. I HAD MY ROADSHOW CARAVAN IN THE GROUNDS HERE FOR A WHILE TOO. ONE MEMORY AMONGST MANY IS THE CREW MAKING A TOP HAT ENTIRELY FROM EMPTY COLT 45 CANS. WELL, IT WAS ON SPECIAL OFFER, WASN'T IT?...AND DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THE HARVEY WALLBANGER NIGHTS....

 Barton Pines

YOU MIGHT JUST ABOUT BE ABLE TO MAKE OUT THAT TICKETS WERE 25 PENCE PER PERSON ON THE DOOR.  AT LEAST IT WAS DECIMAL. FIVE BOB WAS A LOT OF MONEY!

Larvik Bands

'SUMMER IN LARVIK IS GRAND'. THAT WAS THE SLOGAN AND IT REALLY WAS TRUE. IN JULY AND AUGUST SOME COOL DUDES AND HIP CHICKS DESCENDED ON THIS LITTLE SEASIDE TOWN AND IT WAS NON-STOP PARTY TIME. RICHARD T. BEAR SINGING 'SUNSHINE HOTEL' WAS ONE OF THE FAVES ON THE PLAYLIST BACK THEN. THE FACT THAT THERE WERE 2 DJs AND AT LEAST ONE VISITING BAND MOST NIGHTS MADE FOR A GREAT ATMOSPHERE.

The Yacht

ANOTHER SUMMER REVOLVED AROUND THE UPSTAIRS DISCO LOUNGE AT THE YACHT. I MUST BE GETTING ON A BIT BECAUSE I DON'T REMEMBER THE MISS HARP CONTESTS AT ALL! I DO RECALL SPOT PRIZE NIGHTS AND GIVING AWAY GLASS FLAGONS OF TAUNTON CIDER FOR THE BEST DANCER, OR FOR ANSWERING A MUSIC QUESTION. THIS WAS IN THE GLAM ROCK ERA WITH DAVID BOWIE, MUD, SWEET & CO...

Palm Court PM

ALMOST A PIECE OF ARTWORK THIS PHOTO! IT SHOWS YOURS TRULY AND SECOND IN COMMAND CHRIS, AS WE COMMENCE A LUNCHTIME DISCO AT THE PALM COURT. I PARTICULARLY REMEMBER 'ROCK'N'ROLL BABY' BY THE STYLISTICS. IT WAS A GREAT DAYTIME VENUE UNTIL SOMEONE DECIDED THAT IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA TO SMASH THE PLACE UP. IT REALLY HAS GONE INTO HISTORY NOW, AS THE SEAFRONT HOTEL LATER BURNT TO THE GROUND.

The Grand

THE GRAND HOTEL IN TORQUAY. STILL A FORCE TO BE RECKONED WITH AND CERTAINLY SOMEWHERE THAT I WOULD RECOMMEND. I DID QUITE A FEW GIGS HERE, AND REMEMBER AN UNKNOWN ARTIST QUIETLY STRUMMING A TUNE ON THE STAGE ONE NIGHT. THE SONG WAS "WHERE DO YOU GO TO MY LOVELY?" AND THE SINGER WAS PETER SARSTEDT...

Bird Cage

THE BIRD CAGE WAS UP FOUR FLIGHTS OF STAIRS, I KID YOU NOT! IT WAS NEVER GOING TO LAST FOREVER. AS I DID MY FINAL APPEARANCE THERE, THE BAY CITY ROLLERS WERE NUMBER ONE WITH 'BYE BYE BABY'. SEVERAL OTHER CLUBS IN PLYMOUTH HAD THE BENEFIT OF THE SHOW AROUND THAT TIME. I REMEMBER ONE GUY ABOUT THEN WHO PLAYED ALMOST EXCLUSIVELY TAMLA MOTOWN, AND REFUSED REQUESTS! IT WAS ODD BECAUSE HE WASN'T VERY POPULAR, ALTHOUGH THE MUSIC WAS REALLY GREAT, AND THE VENUE WAS ALWAYS BUZZING!

Bridport Rugby

A CHRISTMAS APPEARANCE AT BRIDPORT RUGBY CLUB WHEN ADMISSION HAD RISEN TO A HEADY SIXTY PENCE! THIS NEW YEAR'S EVE THE TICKETS IN BARNSTABLE FOR A BIT OF NOSH FOLLOWED BY THE RICHARD FORD ROADSHOW ARE SIXTY QUID EACH, THAT'S BEFORE YOU'VE BOUGHT A DRINK! MIND YOU, THE ALLOCATION WAS SOLD OUT MONTHS AGO...INFLATION, OR WHAT?!
